St George Retreat Village in Kokino Horio

As the name suggests, the Kokkino Chorio (Red Village) Retreat villas are situated in the most tranquil of settings, at the very top of the hill overlooking the villages and Mediterranean sea before it, and shielded behind by Cape Drapanos.

Each of the 9 detached houses have been placed on carefully on the staggered terraces to ensure each has privacy and enjoy fantastic views. Built in the traditional Cretan method from locally quarried stone and marble, with wooden ceilings with large exposed beams, these villas are full of charm and character, individually decorated to give a unique, modern and comfortable ambiance whilst sympathetically complementing their surrounding countryside location. Perhaps the most unique and magical feature of these villas are their position at the foot of the Red Cave of , steeped in history and reverence, surrounded with mature landscaped gardens and vineyards looking across the most stunning views of the sea and villages below, only the sound of distant sheep bells may disturb the calm and reverential feel of the Retreat, but all within a few minutes drive from the local village with a good taverna with home cooked food and a well stocked mini market or the beach resort of Almyrida.

Villa THALIA

Villa Thalia is one of three villas located on the top of three staggered terraces enjoying uninterrupted views across the valley and Souda Bay. Directly in front of Villa Thalia is one of two shared swimming pools.

Ground Floor - from the car park along the stone path there are 3 ½ steps up to the covered terrace with feature arches. Through the dark wood effect aluminium front door you enter the modern, fully fitted kitchen, again in dark wood to match the dining table and 4 chairs, doors and windows. The kitchen is fully equipped with all modern conveniences such as a washing machine, cooker and hob, large fridge freezer, toaster, kettle, etc. Exposed wooden beams painted in white to give a light and airy feel, throughout the house, continues the traditional Cretan décor.
The walls, a combination of exposed stone and smooth plaster, and tiled floors are beautifully decorated in tones of warm cream, with one feature wall painted in cool wedgewood blue which is then reflected in the soft furnishings. Patio doors lead from the kitchen onto a second covered terrace overlooking the pool and out across Souda Bay.

From the kitchen, in an ‘L' shape, the lounge area has two comfortable 2 seater sofas in cream set around a glass and wrought iron coffee table, with a dark wooden side board and flatscreen TV. The air conditioning unit is located above the patio doors leading to the entrance covered terrace which has a large wooden table and matching benches for outdoor dining. Windows with dark wood effect shutters and fly screens make the rooms light and bright.
Under the stairs leading up to the 1st floor is a cool, white cloakroom with a white suite comprising of a wc and hand basin.

1st Floor - a window at the bottom of the stairs looks out to the side and the car park area. Up 15 stairs you come into the small hallway. Directly to the left is the bathroom painted in cool white and half tiled in matt cream tiles, with a modern white suite comprising of a corner shower cabin, wc, washbasin and steel edged mirror.

The second bedroom next to the bathroom, and straight ahead from the hallway, in warm cream tones, is furnished with a double bed, a pale wood wardrobe and it's feature wall painted in dusky madder rose. Patio doors lead to a small private balcony overlooking the pool and sea.

The spacious master bedroom continues the neutral colour scheme with a cool pale blue feature wall with matching bed covers on the double bed. There is a light wood wooden wardrobe for ample clothes storage, matching bedside tables and reading lamps and a glass and wrought iron dressing table and mirror. Patio doors lead to another small private terrace with the same stunning views for you to watch the magnificent sunrises with your breakfast. There is an air-conditioning unit for those hot summer nights.

From the ground floor terrace and back onto the stone pathway, the swimming pool is just 5 stone steps down. The surrounding pool terrace paved in pale coloured local stone has plenty of room for sun beds and is surrounded by a huge variety of colourful plants, trees and shrubs.

The nearest neighbour to this house is approximately 8 meters to the right, the private car park and country side is to the left. In front of the swimming pool and stepped down is Villa Tessara, approximately 20 metres away from Villa Thalia.

Villa CALLIOPE

Calliope is a single storey villa conveniently located between both swimming pools, on the middle of the terraces. Along the stone pathway from the car park, there are 4 ½ steps up to the pergola covered patio and the dark green aluminium entrance door.

Entering directly into the warm, cream coloured lounge in a mixture of stone, smooth plaster and wooden beamed ceilings, and comfortably furnished with a three seater sofa and 2 matching two seater sofas in cream and wood situated around a modern glass coffee table and an air con unit. The two windows and large patio doors leading to the private patio furnished with a modern glass & wrought iron garden table and 4 chairs for outdoor dining. give the room a light and airy feel. There is a ½ metre high wooden safety fence around the patio which has views of the mature gardens, the Mediterranean sea and Villas Efta and Octo.

To the left of the lounge is a modern, fully fitted pale wood kitchen with green toned tiled splash back blending with the dark green aluminium doors, windows and shutters. The kitchen is fully equipped with all modern conveniences such as a washing machine, cooker and hob, large fridge freezer, toaster, kettle, and a wooden kitchen table with 3 chairs in pale cream. The patio door opens out to the entrance terrace.

From the lounge you enter the hallway with coat rack, with a mixture of exposed pale stone work and smooth plaster in cool blue. The first bedroom has a double bed and dark wooden wardrobe, chest of drawers with reading lamps, television and an air con unit. This room has one pale green feature wall. Double doors open to a small terrace, partially overlooked by Villa Dio above the 5 ½ metre stone garden wall with trailing plants including the beautifully perfumed night blooming Jasmine.
The bathroom painted in cool white and half tiled in matt cream tiles, with a modern white suite comprising of a corner shower, wc, washbasin and gold framed mirror and a large frosted window.
The second bedroom at the end of the hallway has a double bed, full length mirror, pale wooden wardrobe and one bedside cabinet with reading lamp. A pale blue feature wall behind the bed gives the room a cool feel. Double doors lead to a small pergola covered terrace.

Villa Calliope is perfect for those not wishing to tackle steps.
