The word "Irineas" is Greek and means "Peace," which is what you will experience in this    comfortable, light and modern single story house set on top of a hill enjoying stunning views over Almyrida village, beaches and Souda Bay, Karga Isle and the Akrotiri Peninsula.  As with neighbouring Panorama House and Xara's House (see website for further details), Irineas is newly built and sits at front of the 5 other terraced houses staggered along the gently sloping hill to ensure each house has privacy.  The shared pool is positioned on the middle terrace and has a separate shallow section that is perfect for children or non-swimmers.  From this prime location, Almyrida Bay is just a few minutes walk away. For larger parties Xara's House, next door, or Panorama, positioned at the top of these maisonettes, can also be booked.

Accommodation

From the lower parking area, just a few steps along the narrow cement path is the gated, tiled,   entrance terrace to the white aluminium front door. Entering straight into the compact but comfortable open plan living room, kitchen and dining area, immediately to your left is a marble topped dining table and chairs.  A small window, next to the front door, looks across the front terrace and to the olive grove.  A large, L shape  oversized, cream sofa with small marble topped coffee table sits ahead, with the fully fitted, light wood kitchen set along the wall either side of the kitchen door leading onto to the terrace.  With soft closing drawers and plenty of base and wall cupboards, this high quality kitchen has a washing machine, large fridge freezer, cooker/oven and hood, kettle, toaster and an a/c unit.  The half glazed door opens out to the huge terrace that wraps two sides of Irineas and looks out to uninterrupted sea views. 

From the small hallway off the lounge, the first bedroom to your left has twin beds (that can be made into a large double bed), and is simply furnished in white and cream, with floor to ceiling fitted wooden wardrobes with built in drawers. There is a bedside table and a chair. Large, sliding patio doors open onto a covered breakfast terrace enjoying magnificent sea views.

The main bathroom between the two bedrooms is tiled in cool, clean white and comprises of a small bath with shower attachment, a white washbasin and vanity unit, a mirror, toilet with a frosted window set high above the toilet.  An immersion heater for constant hot water is set on the wall near the door.

To the right of the hallway is the larger main bedroom which also has twin beds that become a large double bed if required, 2 light wood bedside tables and lamps, light wood dressing table and mirror, floor to ceiling wardrobes, with white walls and light blue bed covers. Double patio doors open to the front sun terrace, where you can walk up the 16 steps, across a terrace and up a further 8 steps to the swimming pool. The en-suite wet room is clean and modern in white, with wash basin and vanity unit, mirror, toilet, shower and small frosted window set high in the wall for light.    

For sunbathing and outdoor living, the spacious sun terrace has 3 flower beds made from local stone and has a water system in place.  Planted with a colourful array of flowers including geraniums to keep away mosquito's, relax on the selection of sun-beds under umbrellas, enjoy al fresco dining using the stand alone BBQ at the wooden table and chairs whilst taking in the fabulous views of the archaeological site of the mosaic floor of the early, Christian Basilica, the sandy beaches of the Bay and surrounding villages set on the hillside. Set at the very end of these maisonettes, with only Xara's House being your neighbour you can be assured of finding privacy here as the sun terrace is only partially overlooked from the veranda above and to the right.  A safety wall surrounds the terrace.  

The shared, tiled pool (a total of 24 steps up from entrance terrace) has a 10m x 3m adult area and a separate 3m x 2m shallow children area. The pool has an infinity edge (with railings) that looks out to the sea. It is fully tiled and has a dark blue wave motif around the top edge. The shared pool terrace also enjoys sea views and has terracotta tiles.

The villa is fully air conditioned throughout with white aluminium window frames, shutters and doors, and mosquito screens. The a/c units can also be used as heaters for the cooler nights early and late season. There is parking on the lower track directly in front of the house. However we highly recommend Irineas House for those of you not wishing to be reliant on a car unless exploring the surrounding areas. Located just above the beach, a 5 minute downhill (8 minute uphill!) walk along a quiet, gravelled, rural track to the waterfront in the village, lined with number of excellent tavernas, cafes and shops. There are many wonderful walking trails leading from the house for the more energetic amongst you.

Area

Irineas' House is only 350m away from the centre of the village of Almyrida which is built around a charming, crescent shaped sandy beach, with a small fishing harbour at the far end. The beach is very clear, shallow and safe, perfect if you have children or are not a confident swimmer. Lining the beach are 4 tavernas, 9 café/bars, 2 bakeries, a jewellery shop, 5 mini-markets, 3 gift shops, 1 clothes shop and an off-license. You can also visit the non-motorised water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans.  If you feel like exploring, a 15 minute walk uphill (or 10 minutes downhill!) will take you to the main square in the next village of Plaka. Under shady mulberry trees, watch the world go by with the locals at one of the 2 cafes/bars or enjoy a traditional Cretan meal away from the tourists in the tavernas.  Plaka was one of the original village sets for the film "Zorba the Greek" and it still has quaint whitewashed houses and narrow streets leading off from the square. A few minutes by car from Irineas' House you will discover a huge variety of archaeological sites and traditional villages with wonderful tavernas. You may also find small craft centres and museums, including glass blowing in Kokkino Horio, lace makers in Gavalohori, and silk makers in Kalamitsi. For a change of pace, the historic town of Chania is only 30 minutes away by car and has been described as the St.Tropez of Crete.
