Crete

Home of the first European Culture

Paradise for Hiking, Bicycling and other Activities

On the border between the Aegean cluster of islands and the Libyan Sea, sits the isle of Crete: Europes most southern point.
It was on this island that the first important European culture of the Minoans began, approx. 2600 B.C. Apart from the palaces and other archeological sites, it is especially Crete’s fantastic nature that impresses the visitor. Hardly anywhere else can be found such variety of historical sites, such a lively and entertaining history combined with such natural beauty.

Crete is the largest Greek island, 8331 square km and the fith largest island in the whole of the mediteranean. The African coast is some 200 miles away, Asia approx. 110 miles and the European mainland is about 70 miles away from Crete, these influences creating a unique and diverse culture.
From either Frankfurt or London it takes just three to four hours by plane, to reach the two international airports of Heraklion and Chania on this beautiful island.

Crete has three large mountain ranges with summits up to 2456 m (approx. 7500 ft). Breathtaking gorges, beautiful bays and golden beaches, everlasting sunshine and the fine choice of Greek tavernas and 'Kafenions', in combination with the reknowned Greek hospitality, make anyone‘s visit to Crete to an unforgettable experience.
