Hibiscus is a modern house set in the heart of the popular village of Plaka and only 1000m from the sandy beach of Almyrida. Just a 3 - 4 minutes walk from the village square with a choice of excellent tavernas with traditional, home cooked food, cafes with internet access and well stocked mini markets, and a 10 minute walk to the beach and resort of Almyrida, this house is a great choice for those seeking value for money, beautiful views, and easy access to the many local amenities.

Against the traditional white walls of the house, a mature bougainvillea in vibrant purple trailing over the wooden pergola above the entrance terrace provides a bright splash of colour. The walls throughout the house have also been painted in cool white and the floors tiled in a neutral cream, giving the house a light and airy feel. To make sure your stay is all the more enjoyable, there is a fully fitted kitchen with modern appliances, including washing machine, iron & board, white doubled glazed aluminium doors and windows and shutters, and air conditioning units in the main bedroom and living room (also used for heating for the cooler nights at the start and end of the season.) The small private pool is perfect for cooling off after a hard days sunbathing, with a good selection of outdoor furniture provided.

At the front of the house is a small garden planted with an olive tree, orange tree and the hibiscus bush for which the house is named after. 3 steps up to the small path takes you to the white aluminium front door. To the side of the path is the tiled, shared driveway with 3 steps up to the front door.

Ground floor: You enter directly into the small hallway, with a mirror and shelf on the opposite wall. To the left of the hall is the main bathroom with a white suite comprising of hand basin with white, mirrored wall cabinet above, bath with shower attachment and WC. The floor and lower walls have been tiled in a cool sky blue, with a matching border above the white wall tiles. A frosted window looks out to the front of the house. To the right of the hallway the stairs lead to the lower and 1st floor. To the right of the stairs is the twin bedroom, with a large honey pine wood wardrobe and 2 matching bedside tables. The two aubergine coloured reading lamps tone perfectly with the opulent, deep purples and reds of the bed covers. There is a ceiling fan for the balmy summer nights, double doors lead to the patio shared with the second bedroom, with views accross the neighbouring village houses and out to the sea and Akrotiri Peninsular. The window looks out to the front of the house. To the left of the stairs is the master bedroom with a king-size, wrought iron bed, 2 bedside tables, with modern black and metal reading lamps, matching the large pine wardrobe. On the top of the wardrobe is a TV and DVD player. For a touch of romance (as well as practicality) a white mosquito net is draped above the bed, and you can use either the ceiling fan or the air-con unit to keep you cool. Double doors lead to the patio overlooking the pool, with 2 steps down to the pool terrace. The side view is across the village, the same outlook as the window. The en-suite bathroom, with pale terracotta and white tiles, has a shower with glass screen, a white hand basin with white mirrored cabinet above, and white WC. The frosted window faces out to the side of the house.

First floor (up 17 stairs): you enter the open plan kitchen and dining area. A large window in the hallway lets in extra light. A door to the left of the stairs opens to a terrace with views to the sea, olive groves and neighbouring house. The kitchen has pale wooden units with a matching dining table and four chairs. Fully fitted, the kitchen includes: electric oven and hob, large fridge freezer, microwave, kettle and toaster. The windows face the front and side of the house. The lounge area has a large, feature open fire place, and is comfortably furnished with a 2 seater and matching 3 seater sofa in deep rust red. The 90cm flat screen TV, DVD and satellite box are housed in a dark wood stand, with matching display cabinet and side table. There is an air-con unit and ceiling fan, the double doors lead out to a large patio with breathtaking views across the village and out to Souda Bay and the White Mountains, perfect to enjoy the stunning sunsets and watch the night ferries sail to and from Athens with a cold glass of local wine on the patio furniture.

Lower Floor: From the ground floor, down 17 steps is the lower floor, the spacious 3rd bedroom is to the left. Simply furnished with a double bed with fresh blue and white covers, 2 pale wood chests of drawers and matching side shelf unit by the bed, stand up fan, CD and radio with a high window facing the pool, this is perfect for the older child or a couple who would like a little more privacy in probrably the coolest room in the house. In the open area outside the bedroom is a toilet and sink,  with a door leading up to the pool area and the front of the house. The extra water storage tank, and washing machine are also housed here.

The oval swimming pool has a single depth of 1,50 m and is ideal for a cooling splash in the heat of the day. From the patio by the bedrooms are 2 steps to the pool. The terrace, tiled in warm apricot, is enclosed by safety rails, gates and the back wall of the house in front, which has no windows. Terrace lights around the pool make it perfect for a late night swim or after dinner drink. To the right of the pool, through a safety gate there are 8 steps down to the lower ground door, then 4 steps up to the driveway. To the left of the pool are 13 steps leading to the side of the house.

Hibiscus House is located on a quiet, residential road in the village, with pretty village style houses either side and to the front of it. There is an olive grove opposite the front of the house. From it's position at the top of the hill, the houses below are staggered so the views, partially blocked from the ground floor, are stunning from the 1st floor.

If you are looking for a modern, comfortable house with wonderful views and in easy walking distance to the traditional village square and the beach, Hibiscus House is perfect for both families or couples.

The village of Plaka has lovely shady mulberry trees under which the locals sit to watch the world go by whilst enjoying a delicious meal or even just an ice cold frappe. Plaka was one of the original village sets for the film 'Zorba the Greek' and it still has quaint whitewashed houses and narrow streets leading off from the square. A few minutes by car from Hibiscus House, there are a huge variety of archaeological sites and traditional villages with wonderful tavernas, as well as an interesting selection of local arts and crafts centres. A 15 minute walk uphill (or 10 minutes downhill!) will take you to the beach of Almyrida, built around a pretty crescent shaped sandy beach, with a small fishing harbour at the eastern end. The Beach is very shallow and safe, which is good news if you have children or are not a strong swimmer. Lining the beach is a selection of tavernas, café/bars, bakeries, a jewellery shop, mini-markets, gift shops, clothes shop and an off-license. Also in Almyrida there is a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans. If you are in the mood for somewhere a little livelier the historic town of Chania with its beautiful venetian harbour and Old Town ist just 35 minutes away by car.

On request we will be happy to deliver a welcome basket to the villa at 40.00 € extra.

All services and the use of air conditioning and other equipment (as advertised) are included in the weekly rental rates shown on this web site. Children are most welcome in all our properties and we provide a free High Chair and Cot loan service but, we do ask that children are supervised at all times whilst around and in the swimming pool.
