Almyrida

From it's hill top location, Dina Apartments enjoys spectacular views of Souda Bay, The Akrotiri Peninsular, The White Mountains, the Turkish Fort at Aptera and the charming Almyrida harbour and beach, just 4 minutes walk away. These simple, spacious and comfortable apartments have the best views in the area, and are perfect for those wishing to be close to the beach and good choice of taverna's, cafes and shops. 

The apartments have been designed to take full advantage of the spectacular views, and feel spacious with  an open-plan living area. Sun or shade can be found on the partially covered terraces, and a dining table and comfortable chairs are provided for al-fresco dining. Relax in the shared garden with lawned areas, brightly coloured flower beds and olive trees and palms, swing seats, tables and chairs.  From here you can people watch the beach and village below, with a cold drink or a good book.  The Dina Apartments consist of two buildings with a side garden between, filled with a large lemon tree and an abundance of plant pots and flowers such as hibiscus, roses and gernaiums. The owners, Poppy and Vasillis are charming and friendly, and are close by should you like any useful local knowledge or assistance, but are otherwise extremely discreet.

Fully tiled throughout, with white aluminium doors and windows, and air conditioning units in the bedrooms, the apartments are comfortably cool during the long hot Cretan summers. The a/c units also double up as heaters for the cooler nights early and late season. The honey brown wood furniture has all been made locally at the workshop of a local craftsman to match the large breakfast bars, kitchen cabinets and built-in wardrobes . Each spacious apartment comprises an entire floor of the building, with No. 2 being just above ground level (though high above everything else below), and No.3 being on the top floor.

The Dina Apartments are located just in front of Villas Helios and Thalassa.

Accommodation.

Apartment 3: (4 steps from the parking area to the front door, plus 18 steps from the front door):  Open plan living room, kitchen and dining area, 1 double bedroom, 1 twin bedroom, 1 shower room.  The front door opens into a hallway which has a staircase which leads up to the open-plan kitchen and living area. The extra large kitchen area has a breakfast bar, a large fridge/freezer, a kettle, a toaster, a mini oven and 3 rings, 2 windows and double doors that lead out onto the large front terrace which is covered in this area.  The dining and living area has a long couch which can be used as a sofa bed for 1, a coffee table, a book case with a few books, coat hooks, a dining table and chairs, and white and beige striped curtains. There are double doors which lead out onto the front terrace which is semi covered in this area, and 3 windows. An archway leads from the living area to a small hallway which has the doors to the bedrooms and the shower room. The double bedroom has a double bed, 2 bedside cabinets, 2 reading lamps, a dressing table, stool and wall mirror, built-in floor to ceiling wardrobes with hanging space and drawers, yellow curtains, a window, and a set of double doors that lead out onto a covered front terrace which looks to the parking area, small access road, and the villas across the way, one of which is totally covered in gorgeous fuchsia and white bougainvillea. The shower room has dark peach and white mottled tiles, a shower unit, a mirrored cabinet, a wash basin, a toilet, and 2 frosted windows. The twin bedroom has 2 single beds, 1 bedside table, a wardrobe with hanging space and drawers, white and beige striped curtains, and a window with the same outlook as the double bedroom.

The heart Almyrida village is just 350m from Dina’s Apartments. and is built around a pretty crescent shaped sandy beach, with a small fishing harbour at the eastern end. The beach is very shallow and safe, perfect for children. Lining the beach are an excellent selection of tavernas, café/bars, bakeries, a jewellery shop, mini-markets, gift shops, ATM, internet access and an off-license. There is also a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers and catamaran  A scenic, 15 minute walk uphill (or 10 minutes downhill!) will take you to the main square of the next village of Plaka. Here you can join the locals as they sit under shady mulberry trees, drinking icey frappes and watching the world go by.  Plaka was one of the village sets for the film “Zorba the Greek” and you can still walk around the  quaint whitewashed houses and narrow streets. If you feel like exploring, just a few minutes by car from the Dina Apartments are a huge variety of archaeological sites and traditional villages with tavernas serving traditional dishes from organic, local produce. Perhaps visit one of the interesting selection of small craft centres and museums, including glass blowing in Kokkino Horio, lace makers in Gavalohori, and silk makers in Kalamitsi. For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town and harbour of Chania is only 35 minutes away by car.

Almyrida beach and facilities are within easy walking distance, and there is a limited bus service into Chania, but we recommend car hire in order to explore the varied regions of the area.
