The village is popular for its renowned wood oven pizzeria, which draws customers from all over the area, and does cater for vegetarian dishes. There is also a small kafenion.

On the 15th August every year, the village community celebrates a 3-day religious festival of the Virgin Mary. Features of the festival include traditional Cretan music, dancing, and local culinary dishes.

The nearby village of Vamos, with its quaint narrow streets and traditional stone houses, is located 1.5km from Villa Antina. Recently the village has undergone much renovation under the stewardship of the local traditional conservation and tourism association.

Vamos has a large number of amenities, including Bakery, Bank (and ATM), Butcher & Fishmonger, Green grocers & mini-market, Hairdresser, Kafenions, Petrol Stations, Post Office, Tavernas,Traditional craft shops. A number of the tavernas are well known and popular with locals and tourists.

The village is well supported by the local bus service with regular routes to local villages, towns and the cities of Rethymno and Chania, and further afield should you require it.

Beaches
The area has several very good beaches in nearby coastal villages and many secluded coves awaiting your discovery.

Activities
The Apokoronas area is exceptionally beautiful and is a joy to explore in any season. There is an abundance of natural fauna, many olive groves, old donkey tracks, small and large vineyards and a large number of deserted old settlements, as well as historical landmarks.  Villa Antina is ideally situated as a base to explore the area, whether on foot, by horse or on bicycle. We fully support low impact (eco-friendly) tourism and encourage our guests to make use of the services provided by the locals.

Villa Antina is just 10 minutes by car to the lovely village of Almyrida which is built around a crescent shaped sandy beach. The beach is very shallow and safe, which is good news if you have children or are not a strong swimmer. Lining the beach are many excellent tavernas, cafes and shops. Also in Almyrida there is a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans. For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania is only 45 minutes away by car.
